Agreeing that there had been serious negligence on the part of the police in denying help to Kevin’s wife, Chief Minister Pinarayi called the incident an ‘unusual dereliction of duty’.
“The Gandhi Nagar Sub-Inspector had the information in the morning itself. But he didn't take any action as per procedure, which is an unusual dereliction of duty. That officer was suspended immediately and when it was found that the District Police Chief also failed to act promptly he was also taken off the charge of the district,” Mr. Vijayan said.
Repeating his earlier stand that the Gandhi Nagar SI had no role in his security arrangements during his visit, Mr. Vijayan said action would be taken against all police officers who ignored Neenu’s complaint.
He also pointed out Neenu's parents had an inter-caste marriage and they could have remembered that while dealing with their daughter's marriage.
Mr. Vijayan also came down heavily on the media while inaugurating a programme in connection with the second anniversary celebrations of the LDF government here on Tuesday.
“I am not the whipping boy of the television channels. I was elected by the people, not the media,” he said.
