Senior Congress leader dead

One of the founder-members of the Kerala NGO Association and senior Congress leader of Kollam K. Karunakaran Pillai died early on Tuesday at a hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. He was 75 and is survived by two daughters and a son.

Known as “NGO” Karunakaran Pillai, he was the State president of the Kerala NGO Association for several years. He had also served as vice president of the Kollam DCC, executive committee member of the KPCC, director of the State Cooperative Bank, and was on the Kollam District Tourism Promotion Council.

He was also active in the social arenas of Kollam. The body was brought to his house at Anchukallumoodu in the city and was kept at the district office of the Kerala NGO Association and the DCC office in the afternoon for the people to pay homage to the leader.
