Security guidelines issued for banks

October 05, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - KASARAGOD:

In the light of recurring bank robberies in the district, the police have issued a set of security guidelines to ensure such incidents do not take place.

The security guidelines come after reviewing the successful and aborted bid to rob banks and jewellery outlets in the district in the recent past.

Due care should be taken in identifying buildings that share walls of unauthorised outlets or shops. The authorities concerned should ensure that bushes around the bank premises, especially in the rear side, should be cleared at regular intervals as these spots very often become safe haven for anti-social elements, Superintendent of Police A. Srinivas told a press conference in Kanhangad on Sunday while talking about breakthrough in the recent robbery of the Vijaya Bank branch at Cheruvathur.

The surroundings should be cleared so that police personnel could easily carry out routine search works, he said.

The authorities should take due care to install CCTV cameras with good resolution and there should be effective mechanism to monitor the security gadgets, he said.

The roof and walls of the strong rooms of the banks should be strong enough to withstand hi-tech gas cutters and be constructed as per the RBI guidelines. Proper attention should also be given to see that the bank keys are handled by competent persons, a failure which very often had resulted in burglars targeting banks after making meticulous plans.
