Plastic and electronic goods worth lakhs of rupees were gutted in a fire that broke out in a scrap warehouse at Choori near here on Monday. Fire and Rescue Services personnel had to work for over four hours to put out the fire, suspected to have been cased by sparks from an overhead power line around 1.15 p.m.

Thick smoke enveloped the locality making it difficult to contain the fire, officials said.

Three fire tenders from Kasaragod and one from Kanhangad were pressed into service. The personnel took care to ensure that the fire did not spread to the thickly populated area nearby.

The fire in the warehouse, owned by P.M. Muhammed Kunhi, was contained with the help of a pump that helped to draw water from a nearby pond.
