Sabarimala for massive sanitation drive from November 7

Sabarimala is to witness a massive sanitation drive in the coming week. As many as 4389 sanitation volunteers will be deployed at the pilgrim centre for the intensive pre-pilgrimage cleaning operation that begins on November 7, according to District Collector, P.Venugopal.

Mr Venugopal said the Mata Amrithanandamayi Madhom would be deploying as many as 4000 volunteers at Sabarimala and Pampa for the cleaning drive.

The Madhom has already moved-in a section of its sanitation volunteer force to Sabarimala to make the preliminary arrangements for the smooth conduct of the proposed cleaning programme. Hundreds of volunteers of the Madhom from different parts of the State will reach Sabarimala by November 6 to take part in the cleaning programme.

This was announced by the Madhom authorities at a meeting convened by the Collector here on Wednesday to review the arrangements for the proposed sanitation drive.

Mr Venugopal said Satya Sai Seva Sanghom, Nehru Yuva Kendra and National Service Scheme would deploy 50 each volunteers and the Vana Samrakashana Samiti attached to Forest department would deploy 239 workers for the proposed cleaning programme at Sabarimala.

The Collector has directed the Travancore Devaswom Board to make necessary arrangements for transportation and disposal of the waste collected from different parts of Sabarimala and Pampa during the cleaning drive.

TDB authorities said the board would provide tractors for shifting the waste collected to the yards near the incinerators at Pampa and the Sannidhanam.

TDB would provide accommodation facility for all volunteers at Sabarimala and Pampa.

The Amrithanandamayi Madhom authorities have apprised the meeting that they would provide implements and gloves to their volunteers and would prepare food for themselves.

The Collector said TDB would provide implements, gloves and food to the volunteers attached to various other agencies.

AIMS medical team

The Madhom will also open two medical units of Amrita Institute of Medical Science, Kochi, at Sannidhanam and Pampa during the period.

H.Salimraj, Additional District Magistrate; M.C.Sarasamma, Adoor Revenue Divisional Officer; K.P.Sasidharan Nair, Deputy Collector and Benny Puthenparambil, Ranni Block Panchayat president, also attended the meeting.
