The wife of former tantri of Sabarimala Kandararu Maheswararu has approached the High Court alleging ill-treatment by her son Kandararu Mohanararu and his wife. She also sought a directive to them to return ₹41 lakh withdrawn from her account illegally.
In her petition, Devaki Andharjanam, 83, said she and her son Mohanararu were holding a joint account at the Chengannur branch of the Federal Bank since 1998.
She authorised her son and his wife, Asha Mohanararu, to deal with the account after they promised to take care of the treatment expenses of her husband and return the remaining money. After her husband died in May 2018, they started ill-treating her. Her son and daughter-in-law did not inform her about the transactions being done from the account. She came to know that ₹41.63 lakh was transferred to Mohanararu’s account without her permission.

Though she had approached the Maintenance Tribunal at Thiruvananthapuram set up under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, her petition was adjourned. It would now come up after the court vacation.
The petitioner, therefore, also sought a directive to the tribunal to dispose of her complaint within two weeks and grant her monthly maintenance.
