CPI leader D. Raja has said the BJP’s win in Tripura has begun to pose a serious threat to secular and democratic forces in the country.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the party State conference here on Saturday, Mr. Raja said a combined onslaught by various secular and democratic forces was the need of the hour to stop the BJP juggernaut. He called upon the Left parties to rework their strategies to counter the BJP.

He alleged that the BJP won the elections by using its power at the Centre and money. He accused the BJP of playing a dangerous political game by aggressively pushing a fascist-communal Hindutva agenda.

“At one level, the BJP is talking about nationalism. At the other, the party has entered into an unholy alliance with opportunistic groups in Tripura,” he said.

Mr. Raja said the BJP could manipulate the verdict in Meghalaya as it did in Goa and Manipur. “We will wait and see what the BJP will do in Meghalaya,” he said. He said the Congress should live in the present and not hold on to its old policies and strategies. “The Congress is a pan-India party and it should rework its economic policies to resist the BJP,” he said.
