Kerala NGO Union State general secretary T.C. Mathewkutty has called for strong public resistance against the Central government’s bid to exploit workers under duress from capitalist forces.

Inaugurating a Secretariat march and dharna organised by the union here on Thursday in protest against the anti-people policies of the Centre and in support of the State government’s bid to strengthen Civil Service, Mr. Mathewkutty said that the Centre which had decided to cut oil imports from Iran in tune with the US diktat had not taken any step to contain petrol and diesel prices.

Uncertainty gripped the job sector. The Uttar Pradesh government was gearing up to expel employees who had crossed 50 years.

This reminded the government’s decision to introduce compulsory retirement for employees who completed 48 years during the Emergency, he said.

The State government, in contrast, was initiating welfare measures in the interest of various sections. There were no curbs on creating new posts and the Civil Service was being strengthened to improve the public service delivery system, Mr. Mathewkutty said.
