Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday called for efforts to resist attempts to sow discord in society.
The State’s progressive and secular values must remain intact if it is to achieve true resilience and sustainability, Mr. Vijayan said.
“Our unity and solidarity have troubled a few vested interests who are trying to sow the seeds of discord in our society. The process of rebuilding a resilient Kerala has to overcome such designs,” he said, chairing the inaugural session of the international conference on ‘Thoughts and Ideas for a Resilient Kerala.’
The government, while pushing forward efforts to physically rebuild the State in the post-flood scenario, is also making sure that the State remains progressive and secular, he said.
To build resilience against future disasters, the State has to adopt a sustainable lifestyle, the Chief Minister said.
“We need to be able to reduce what we use, and refuse what we cannot repair, reuse or recycle,” he said.
Roads, houses
District Collectors have been instructed to complete the rebuilding of roads and houses destroyed by the mid-August floods.
With top priority given to the rebuilding exercise, the government was also combining existing projects with the rebuilding initiatives, he said.
