Relief of Roerich unveiled

A relief of Swethoslav Roerich was unveiled on the premises of the Russian Cultural Centre by artist and cinema art director Radhakrishnan. The monument to the artist and philosopher who loved India was unveiled at the Roerich Road, a press note issued here by the Russian Cultural Centre, here on Monday said.

The visiting members of the cultural group from Ulyanosk region and the Russian nationals staying in Kerala were present on the occasion. They offered a floral tribute at the monument to Roerich. Artists, members of the Roerich Painting School of the Russian Cultural Centre were present.

In 2004, the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation council passed a resolution to name the road adjacent to the Russian Cultural Centre after Swethoslav Roerich. In August 2004, the former Prime Minister of India I.K. Gujaral officially opened the Roerich Road in the presence of the then Mayor of Thiruvananthapuram J. Chandra and head of the Cultural Department of the Russian Embassy Fyodor Rozovskiy.
