Regular cultural festivals will be conducted here every month from August under the joint auspices of the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) and the Information and Public Relations Department (I&PRD) with the objective of giving a fresh impetus to the cultural activities in the district.

Announcing this here on Tuesday, District Collector T.V. Subhash said a music programme in memory of the late singer Umbayi would be held at the Cherussery Auditorium on the Kannur University campus on August 3 to mark the beginning of the regular cultural events. Writer T. Padmanabhan would inaugurate the programme.

It would be followed by a gazal programme led by Kolkata-based singer Rakhi Chatterjee.

Mr. Subhash also said the regular cultural events also envisaged provision of a platform for known and unknown talents in the cultural field in the district and outside the district. The events would be held at venues in different parts of the district. The programmes would include film and documentary festivals as also theatre festivals. A mega cultural festival was being planned during December-January, he added.
