Rediscovering Arthashastra of Kautilya

: ‘Koutilya Unleashed,’ a book inspired by the philosophy of Human Resource Development inherent in the great Indian classic Arthashastra of Kautilya, will be released here on Wednesday.

Written by C.T. William, a researcher and trainer in Human Resource Development, it has tried to rediscover and reinvent the great Kautilya — the tantric guru of the Mauryan Empire who wrote the Bible of Administration and Management.

Dr. William has identified two key elements in Arthashastra, says noted Shashi Tharoor, MP, who wrote the foreword of the book.

The first is that of the principle of ‘Acquisition of Resources,’ which he links with the HRD process by which employees of an organisation are assisted to acquire and sharpen capabilities to perform functions associated with their present or expected future roles. The second is the principle of ‘Retention of Acquired Resources’, which implies the development of an organisational culture in which superior-subordinate relations, teamwork and collaboration are strong factors which contributes to the professional well-being, motivation and pride of the employees. Published by Partridge India (A Penguin Random Company) the book will be released by Dr. Jacob Thomas IPS on Wednesday.
