Rear Admiral Tarun Sobti assumed charge as the Deputy Commandant and Chief Instructor of Indian Naval Academy (INA) at Ezhimala on March 4.

A press release informing this here on Tuesday said the Admiral, who had been commissioned into the Indian Navy in July 1988, is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakvasla, Collége Interarmées de Defense, Paris, and College of Naval Warfare, Mumbai. A specialist in Navigation and Direction, he has piloted Indian Naval Ships Abhay, Kirpan and Mysore and was part of the Direction Team on INS Viraat.

The Flag Officer has commanded frontline missile corvettes INS Nishank, and INS Kora and commissioned the first of class destroyer, INS Kolkata as the Commanding Officer, it said.

His staff appointments include tenures at Directorate of Staff Requirements, Directorate of Personnel, and Captain Work Up at Local Work Up Team (East).

He had served as the Naval Attaché at Embassy of India, Moscow, before taking over the present appointment.
