Reading can trigger new hopes: Benyamin

Writer Benyamin has said that a good book can trigger new hopes for life even during distressing situations.

Speaking at an interactive session held at the Collectorate conference hall here on Tuesday in connection with the official Reading Week celebrations, he said that there were lot of people in the region who were able to spend time for reading books despite hectic routines.

In a way, the result of developing reading habit was similar to yoga, he added.

Mr. Benyamin also said that the creativity of a writer was completed in the minds of readers.

Lost fortune

Recalling his experience during a visit to Karachi in Pakistan, he said that many people who had migrated to Pakistan from India were now looking at India as a lost fortune.

Change for worse

“Our country will also change for worse if we do not react to forces of division growing amongst us,” he said.

He also stressed the need for making the new generation understand the meaning and importance of democracy and its multiple voices.
