Plight of Pariyaram college
I recently visited the Pariyaram Medical College Hospital in Kannur, which is about to be taken over by the government. It seems the complex was painted decades ago. The house-keeping is in bad shape and the toilets, unhygienic. Although the doctors and staff are empathetic to patients, they are severely handicapped by lack of sophisticated equipment. There is no fire-fighting equipment either. Although the hospital was certified under ISO-9000 Quality Management system years ago, there is no evidence of the system being put into practice.

Chaos reigns
at rail gate
The caution bells ring, indicating that its time to close the railway gate, and vehicles make a dash to cross it. This is a familiar scene at the railway gate at Aandimadam, which is on way to Akathethara and Malapuzha in Palakkad. A few days ago, it was reported that the police fined vehicle users who sped to cross the gate.
The buses from Olavakkode to Malampuzha stop just after the gate, and most often on the speed-breaker for to drop passengers, causing a traffic jam. Buses should be allowed to stop only a few feet away on either side of the gate. Vehicles unload goods in front of shops, adding to the snarl. This stretch plunges into chaos when the gate closes. It seems the promised flyover will not materialise anytime soon.

Grave reality
The government should keep tabs on the migrant labourers entering the State. The recent gruesome murder for gain of a family in Kottayam emphasises the graveness of the situation. The antecedents of migrant labourers should be checked before they are employed here.
