Randomisation of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail Machines (VVPAT) for the Lok Sabha election were conducted here on Tuesday. The EVMs and VVPAT machines to be used in each Assembly segment are selected through the randomisation.
Representatives of political parties were present at the randomisation process held at the Collectorate. Randomisation of the EVMs and VVPAT machines are being conducted to ensure a free and fair election. District Collector Mir Mohammed Ali, who is also the District Election Officer, was present.
The list of the machines with details, including the barcodes of the machines, were handed over to the Assistant Returning Officers concerned and to representatives of the parties.
An official press release informing this said that the list included 2,231 ballot units, control units and VVPAT machines to be used in 1,857 polling stations in the district.
Safe custody
The machines kept in safe custody at the warehouse at the KINFRA Industrial Park at Nadukani, near Taliparamba, were handed over to AROs of the Assembly segments.
The machines would be transferred from the warehouse to strong rooms arranged in the Assembly segments in the first week of April, the release informed.
The number of EVMs and VVPAT machines allotted for each Assembly constituency in the district is as follows.
Payyannur – 216, Kalliassery – 203, Taliparamba – 233, Irikkur – 221, Azhikode – 185, Kannur – 179, Dharmadom – 197, Thalassery – 198, Koothuapramba – 206, Mattannur – 203 and Peravur – 190.
