The State government has been successful in strengthening the public-sector institutions and making them profitable, Minister for Local Self-Government A.C. Moideen has said.

He was speaking after inaugurating the Onam fair of the Civil Supplies Corporation at Kunnamkulam on Sunday.

“The government is making efforts for making the Onam celebrations affordable for the common man. The Local Self-Government institutions have been asked to reach support for Onam celebrations in tribal hamlets.

Welfare pensions

The government has distributed various welfare pensions on time. The government employees also will get Onam allowances,” he said.

This time, Supplyco, in association with the Agriculture Department, will sell vegetables too at the Onam mela. All panchayats will organise Onam melas.

Kunnamkulam municipal chairperson Seetha Raveendran presided over the meeting.

The Onam fair will be under way at the Avenue Building on Kunnamkulam-Wadakkanchery Road till September 10.
