The Kuruppampady police launched a probe into the alleged mistreatment of a candidate who had attended the NEET examination by the staff of a private school here.

Officials said the case followed a complaint lodged by a candidate from Kasaragod, who had reached the school to attend the examination on Sunday, that staff of the Kuruppamapady St. Mary’s Public School cut off half of the sleeve of his shirt. Besides, he was also asked to remove the metal button of his jeans.

“The school authorities had cut off the clothing in front of other examination attendees causing distress to the candidate. The case was lodged after a preliminary inquiry showed that the boy has been mistreated,” said T.M. Shameer, sub-inspector.

The student, a minor, had approached the Kuruppampady police with his parent to file a complaint on Sunday. The FIR was lodged after preliminary investigation on the complaint.

Couldn’t attend test

Meanwhile, the boy was unable to write the examination despite following the ‘attire guidelines,’ as the photograph on his hall-ticket lacked date and place. However, they decided to lodge a case as the frisking, during which the student had been asked to cut off the cloth, happened before examining his hall-ticket. “The student had to undergo the ordeal before his hall-ticket got rejected,” the police said.

Meanwhile, the school authorities maintained that the examination invigilators were acting as per norms laid down by the CBSE. “The board had laid down strict rules regarding the attire of candidates and we were just implementing it,” they said.
