Probe in progress in Jesna case, police tell HC

Say all details are being verified with great care

The police on Monday told the Kerala High Court that earnest efforts are being taken to trace Jesna, a woman who went missing on March 22.

When a petition seeking to produce the woman came up for hearing, the police submitted that all information, including those which turned out to be erroneous, were verified with “great care and attention.” The investigation was in progress.

No useful info

As part of the investigation, about 250 people were questioned and about 130 statements were recorded and around a lakh call details were analysed. But the procedures yielded no useful information.

The police added that the diary of the missing woman was verified as part of the investigation. The Perunad police had conducted a detailed investigation in the forest areas of Parunthumpara with the assistance of beat forest officers and forest watchers. Besides, the police had questioned the guest workers at her father’s construction sites.

The petition was filed by Shone George seeking a directive to the police to trace and produce the woman. He feared that she might be under the illegal custody of goons or antisocial elements. No steps had been taken by the police to trace the woman, he alleged.

Meanwhile, the court reserved its verdict on the petition.
