President arrives in Kerala for maiden visit

President Ram Nath Kovind arrived in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday for his maiden visit to Kerala.

Mr. Kovind, whose special aircraft landed at the Air Force technical area by 9.15 a.m., was received by Governor P. Sathasivam, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, his cabinet colleagues, senior military officers and bureaucrats.

The President inspected a Guard of Honour accorded to him, notwithstanding a downpour. After exchanging pleasantries with the delegates, Mr. Kovind proceeded for Kayamkulam in a helicopter. After touching down at a helipad constructed on the compound of NTPC at Kayamkulam, he will leave by road to Kollam, where he is scheduled to formally launch the 64th birthday celebrations of Mata Amritanandamayi at Amritapuri at Vallikkavu and inaugurate charity programmes and development projects that are being sponsored by the Mata Amritanandamayi Math.

After attending the function, he will return to Delhi via Thiruvananthapuram in the afternoon.
