Power distribution systems to be upgraded

K.C. Venugopal, MP, has said that power distribution system in Alappuzha parliamentary constituency will be modernised by making use of funds under central schemes. A proposal of the projects worth Rs. 76.54 crore will be prepared soon. A decision on it was taken at a meeting convened under the chairmanship of district collector N. Padmakumar.

An amount of Rs. 57.54 crore will be spent under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gramajyothi Yojna scheme meant for development of rural areas while a sum of Rs. 19 crore will be utilised for upgradation of power systems in urban areas under the integrated power development scheme.

The projects include installation of new transformers, increasing the capacity of existing transformers, laying of new power lines, setting up of 11 KV line and high tension cable, replacement of conventional metering equipment with electronic meters and replacement of single phase power line with three phase lines. The amounts spent on projects in various panchayats under the Gramajyothi scheme are: Pattanakkad block panchayat: Rs. 10.84 crore; Kanjikuzhy block panchayat: Rs. 8 crore; Thaikkattussery Block panchayat: Rs. 9.62 crore; Aryad block panchayat: Rs.7.87 crore; Ambalappuzha block panchayat: Rs. 6.76 crore; Harippad block panchayat: Rs. 7.69 crore; Muthukulam block panchayat: Rs.6.74 crore.

Under the integrated power development scheme, an amount of Rs. 10 crore will be spent in the Alappuzha municipal limits. Works worth Rs. 5 crore will be executed in Cherthala municipality while Rs. 4 crore will be spent on power system upgradation in Kayamkulam.
