The Thamarassery police have registered a new case as part of conducting a separate investigation into the suspicious death of Sily, 41, one of the six victims in the Koodathayi serial murder case.

Sily was the wife of Shaju Zachariyas, the husband of prime accused Jolly Shaju.

The police said it was part of the attempts to probe the six murders separately. So far, only one case had been recorded as unnatural death by the local police.

It was in 2016 that Sily died in suspicious circumstances. Her daughter Alphine too died in mysterious circumstances in 2014.

In the fresh investigation, the police would also check whether her husband had any involvement in the incident.

According to the Crime Branch, Sily and her daughter were endangered by Jolly with a view to marrying Shaju Zachariyas. She married Shaju a year after the mysterious deaths.

As part of the investigation, the Crime Branch squad collected details of more persons from the National Institute of Technology-Calicut where Jolly allegedly established contacts with some individuals and students.

The squad had already managed to identify a flat in the area, which was allegedly purchased by Jolly.

Statement of all those who previously managed a beauty parlour on the NIT-C campus had already been recorded. Some of those who happened to see Jolly on the campus on various occasions too had given their statement to the Crime Branch team.

Based on the call detail records, a probe was also launched into the trips Jolly had purportedly made to a location in Coimbatore. The police said she made the confidential trips after convincing her husband that she was on a visit to her parents’ house in Idukki.
