Even as various trade unions called for a dawn-to-dusk hartal at Mudakkayam on Saturday seeking legal action against P.C. George, MLA, the police have registered a case against the MLA, who created a scene by pointing his pistol at the workers of the Harrison Malayalam plantation at Mundakkayam on Thursday.

According to the police, the case has been registered under IPC Sections 294 (g) (use of obscene words), 506(20) (Criminal Intimidation), and 308 (attempt to culpable homicide). Meanwhile, various trade unions alleged that the police were in collusion with Mr. George and has called the hartal.

The incidents occurred when an irate mob tried to intimidate Mr. George who arrived to sort out a clash between the workers of the plantation and puramboke dwellers living nearby. Meanwhile, the 52 families who were residing at the puramboke land near the plantation came out in support of the MLA, alleging that he had to take out his pistol in self-defence. Speaking to mediapersons here, they said the workers at the plantation and ‘goondas’ hired by the management had shouted ‘MLA go back’ and hurled abuses at the MLA. Some of them were carrying country weapons, they alleged.
