POCSO provisions slapped on activist

Daughter of imprisoned activists accuses him of sexual harassment in Facebook post

A criminal case was registered in Palakkad on Saturday against activist Rejeesh Paul for sexually abusing a 16-year-old girl, daughter of a couple undergoing imprisonment for their alleged engagement with Maoist politics. Provisions of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act have been slapped on him.

It was three days ago that the girl spoke about the sexual harassment she suffered from Rejeesh Paul in an FB post. The police have begun actions based on a directive from State Police Chief Loknath Behera, who received a complaint from a Kottayam-based social activist.

A set of other women have raised complaints of sexual harassment against him. Investigation also would be held against his friends, who used social media to tarnish the image of women who criticised Rejeesh Paul.
