The Jacobite faction filed a petition in the Kerala High Court on Monday seeking a directive to the State government to take steps to amicably settle the Piravam church issue.

The petition was filed by two parishioners of the Jacobite faction.

They alleged that the Orthodox faction leaders were making all attempts to encroach upon the church and take over its management.

Parishioners’ right

The parishioners had every right to attend the religious functions and rites without any hindrance or obstruction from anybody.

The petitioners pointed out that there was a clear directive from the Supreme Court to the parties to resolve the dispute amicably and, if necessary, by amending the Constitution of the church.

State duty-bound

A combined reading of the Supreme Court judgments in the case would show that the State government was duty-bound to facilitate resolution of the dispute in a peaceful manner.

The Orthodox faction leaders were trying to take over the administration of the church by force under the cover of the Supreme Court judgments. They were trying to disturb the peaceful atmosphere now prevailing there.
