Plachimada Tribunal Bill: RYF warns of agitation

The Revolutionary Youth Front will organise a public meeting at Stadium bus-stand in Palakkad town on Friday in protest against the alleged stand of the Union government towards the Plachimada Tribunal Bill.

In a statement here on Sunday, front State secretary Saleem P. Chacko said former Water Resources Minister and Revolutionary Socialist Party central secretariat member N.K. Premachandran would inaugurate the meet.

Mr. Chacko called upon Chief Minister Oommen Chandy to clarify whether the State government stand was in support of return of the Bill by the Union government or it fully backed the Bill passed by the Assembly.

Mr. Chacko said the Assembly had passed the Bill without exceeding its jurisdiction. The experts attached to the Union Home Ministry should have scrutinised the Bill properly, instead of returning it to the State seeking clarifications, he said.

He called upon the government to exert pressure on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to get the President's assent for the Bill.

Mr. Chacko warned the government of a strong agitation if the Bill was sabotaged in favour of the Coca-Cola company.
