Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will be heading to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, in the United States, for treatment and a possible surgical procedure.

Confirming the development, official sources said the Chief Minister will leave for a 13-day visit to the US on August 19.

"The decision to go to Mayo Clinic has been taken because there is a consensus of views on the treatment procedure to be followed among doctors in India and at the Mayo Clinic," a top source told The Hindu , without specifying the exact nature of Mr. Vijayan's ailment.

Mr. Vijayan has been consulting doctors at the Apollo Hospital Chennai, for quite some time now and was last admitted to the hospital on March 3.
