Pinarayi slams Chandrappan

February 11, 2012 12:26 pm | Updated 12:26 pm IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

CPI(M) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan has come down heavily on CPI State secretary C.K. Chandrappan for his observation that the arrangements for the 20th CPI(M) State conference were made by an event management group.

In his presidential address to the valedictory of the 20th State conference of the CPI(M) here on Friday, Mr. Vijayan, without naming Mr. Chandrappan, said it was an act of pettiness.

Such comments should not have been made by a person who was deemed to be knowledgeable. Those who raised such allegations should name the group. Such comments would not have any impact on Left unity, but it was petty, he said.

The mass mobilisation of the party in connection with the State conference cannot be deemed as largesse. The CPI(M) was known for conducting red volunteer marches. Could it be considered an extravaganza? Mr. Vijayan asked.

The volunteers who had been trained for the conference would be deployed for relief and rescue operations in future.

Hundreds of people who came for the valedictory meeting could not even enter the stadium. This was proof of the mass support enjoyed by the party.

The CPI(M) was growing. Similarly, the CPI and the RSP should widen their mass base. No one need be envious of the growth of the CPI(M). The CPI(M) did not have a big brother attitude. All decisions at the Left Democratic Front (LDF) were made through collective discussions and there was no domination, he said.

Mr. Vijayan said the CPI(M) and the LDF were not keen on dislodging the United Democratic Front (UDF) government through a conspiracy.

The UDF government, which was plagued by dissensions, would be rocked by a series of agitations planned by the LDF against the anti-people policies, he said.

Mr. Vijayan said all decisions, including adoption of the report, were unanimous and reports contrary to that were baseless.
