The government has not flouted any norms nor deviated from the election manifesto of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) while granting in-principle approval to three breweries, two blending compounding and bottling units in the State, Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan has said.

Responding to mediapersons queries on Wednesday to the series of allegations raised by Leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala, the Chief Minister said Mr. Chennithala was trying to turn the people against the government led by him based on baseless assumptions.

“Allegations like these have been raised in the past and even after the floods apprehensions were raised. But when the evidence was made public, the people have always ignored these allegations,” Mr. Vijayan said.

‘No liquor distribution’

Two units have been given the nod for enhancing the capacity and there will be no distribution of liquor from these production units as it was handed over to the Kerala State Beverages Corporation. At present, Bevco procures 8% of the liquor and 40% of beer from other States.

The Opposition leader has written saying that he favoured the steps to bring down the liquor flow from other States.

Besides, Mr. Vijayan said the State’s revenue would increase and the employment opportunities would go up.
