The Left Democratic Front Independent candidate, Peelipose Thomas, has submits his nomination papers to District Collector S. Harikishore who is also the Returning Officer, here, on Thursday afternoon.

Mr. Thomas was accompanied by K.N. Balagopal, MP; K. Ananthagopan, Communist Party of India (Marxist) district secretary; R. Unnikrishna Pillai, CPI(M) State committee member; and P. Prasad, Communist Party of India district secretary.

Talking to media persons, Mr. Thomas said he wished to discuss the development of the district in a common man’s perspective and was confident of a big win in the ensuing polls.

He said it was the anti-people stand adopted by the government, disregarding the real needs of the constituency that had made him join hands with the Left parties and fight for the cause of the common people.

Mr. Thomas alleged that the sitting MP was a gross failure in addressing the basic needs of the people and the constituency as a whole.

Mr. Thomas said what the constituency needed was basic infrastructure facility which could improve the standard of living of the common people, besides strengthening the socio-economic sector. Sidelining of the constituency’s agrarian backbone, while planning ambitious development schemes, would only invite doom for this Central Travancore belt, he added.

P. Mohanraj, District Congress Committee president, said the United Democratic Front candidate, Anto Antony, would file his papers before the Returning Officer here on Friday.
