After four years, power production resumed at Peechi on Wednesday as the shutters of the dam were opened after the water level crossed the maximum capacity.
The Peechi power project was commissioned five years ago. The project was dedicated to the nation in January 2013 and power production started in February.
To Pattikkad substation
The project, with 1.25 megawatt production capacity, can supply power to the Pattikkad substation.
Around 5, 000 to 10,000 families in Pananchery grama panchayat will be benefit from the power generated here.
Usually, water will be released for irrigation from the dam in October.
People on the banks of the Valathukara canal from Peechi are facing flood threat as water flow in the canal has been disrupted owing to a landslip. Efforts are on to remove soil and rocks from the canal.
Water levels in other reservoirs such as Vazhani, Chimmini, and Poomala are also rising fast.
