Communist Party of India (Marxist) Kannur district secretary P. Jayarajan said here on Monday that the party would act legally and mobilise people against the media engaged in circulating fabricated stories with the objective of tarnishing the image of the party.
Addressing a press conference at the party district committee office, Mr. Jayarajan said the party district secretariat had called upon people who had faith in democracy to isolate ‘criminals’ who were writing ‘vampire stories’ against the CPI(M) and its leaders with the backing of the ‘right-wing’ media. Using incidents of suicide and accident deaths as a campaign weapon against the CPI(M) was a dangerous move, he said adding that the moves to attack the party and the leadership by preparing fake complaints after conspiracy at higher levels would have far-reaching consequences.
Referring to the demand for a fresh probe into the unnatural death of Karayi Sajeevan, one of the accused in the K.T. Jayakrishnan murder case, Mr. Jayarajan said Sajeevan’s body was found on the railway track, near Thalassery, on August 11, 2003. Moves are now on to hold the party responsible for his death, reported as a case of suicide on the basis of statements of his relative and local people, he said adding that Sajeevan had committed suicide as he was distressed by the false deposition of RSS workers as witnesses.
Mr. Jayarajan also alleged attempts to tarnish the ‘martyrdom’ of U.K. Saleem who was slain by National Development Front (NDF) workers. He was referring to the recent disclosure by K.P. Yoosaf, father of DYFI worker, Saleem, that his son had been allegedly killed by CPI(M) workers to avert any disclosure of truth about the murder of NDF worker, Muhammad Fazal. ‘NDF criminals’ are being given a chance to escape from the law by arranging a submission of a false complaint by Saleem’s father who, he said, was a Congress sympathiser.
The CPI(M) district secretary also took strong exception to the move to use for political motive the suicide of the daughter of the party leader and former MLA M. Prakashan six years ago. The district Youth Congress had demanded further investigation into a few deaths in and around Azhikode, including the death of Mr. Prakashan’s daughter and a youth, reportedly her neighbour and friend. He alleged that K.M. Shaji, MLA, was behind the attempts to fabricate stories on cases of suicide and accidents.
