Pala municipality may witness an unusual electoral battle when two brothers take up political cudgels against each other in the ensuing elections.

In Ward 13, Murukkumpuzha, Binu Pulickkakandam, an independent member in the outgoing municipal council, who has recently joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has his job cut out, with his brother Biju Pulickkakandam joining the fray as a UDF candidate.

Mr. Binu was a Congress activist earlier.

However, following differences with the local Congress leadership, he became an independent member in the municipal council and later joined the BJP.

Symbols

His elder brother Biju is a businessman and is entering the electoral fray for the first time. The symbols have not been finalised.

Meanwhile, the LDF has allocated Ward 13 to the Communist Party of India (CPI).
