Painters’ camp ends today

The week-long painters’ camp organised jointly by Department of Cultural Affairs and Kerala Lalithakala Akademi at KTDC Garden House at Malampuzha, near here, will conclude on Friday.

The national-level camp is being attended by a dozen leading painters who interacted with visiting art aficionados even while being engaged in their creative work.

“The aim of the camp is to encourage our leading painters. It carries the message that artists through their drawings and words can function as a corrective force in society,” said art critic M.L. Johny, who was instrumental in organising the painters’ camp.

Platform

According to Lalithakala Akademi chairman Kattoor Narayana Pillai, the camp was a different experience as it provided a platform for budding artists to interact with leading painters. Such interactions could provide new dimensions to their creative impulses, he said.

Bhagyanath C., Manoj Vyloor, Muralidharan K., Nagdas V., Pranam Singh S., Rajeswara Rao, Sajid Bin Amar, Saith A.S., Sajitha Shankar, Surendran Nair, Tensing Joseph, and Vijaya Singh are among the artists who are taking part in the camp. In the past one week, these artists created a work of art each in their own style and theme. The akademi will buy the works. Most artists have chosen to work with acrylic colours.
