Paddy farmers on Wednesday staged a dharna in front of the office of Supplyco (Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation Ltd.) here demanding disbursal of the remuneration for the paddy procured from them. Tommy Kallani, District Congress Committee president, inaugurated the dharna. Speaking on the occasion, he said the inordinate delay in the payment of remuneration has put the farmers in a difficult spot and many of them are finding it difficult to find ways to take up pre-sowing work for the next season. He wanted the Supplyco to disburse the arrears immediately.
According to Sunny Kalloor, vice president, Kerala Karshaka Congress, the situation was unprecedented as the payment for the procurement of puncha harvest had not been given away so far.
