As many as 20 persons are feared dead in rain-related incidents in different parts of Kerala on Thursday.

Eight persons belonging to two families perished when earth caved in on their homes at Nenmara near the Pothundy dam in Palakkad early this morning. Rescue workers confirmed the eight deaths and said four members of the two families had been rescued with minor injuries. They expressed the fear that a few more bodies could be trapped under the debris. Details of the tragedy are awaited.

Four persons were killed in a landslide at Vennikkulam at Teekoy in the eastern parts of Kottayam districts. Three were rescued and moved to a nearby hospital.

Two children were killed when mud caved in on their house at Mavoor on the outskirts of Kozhikode city. A few of the family members are feared to be trapped inside the house. In a similar incident, another person was killed at Kooderanji in Kozhikode district. Five persons were rescued and admitted to the hospital.

A woman was killed when her house collapsed in a mudslide at Kolappad near Edavanna in Malappuram district this morning and two more killed in a landslip at Oorngatteri in the district. At Ramanthali in Kannur, one person died when a country boat capsized.

In Thrissur district, one person was killed as a wall collapsed.
