Ottanthullal artiste Geethanandan dead

He collapsed during performance

Acclaimed Ottanthullal artiste Kalamandalam Geethanandan died during a performance at Avittathur, near Irinjalakuda, on Sunday evening. He was 58.

The end of the artiste, who had performed on more than 5,000 stages in India and abroad, came during a stage performance at Mahadeva Temple, Avittathur.

He was a teacher of Ottanthullal at Kerala Kalalamandalam for more than a quarter century.

He collapsed on the stage during the performance.

Though he was rushed to the hospital, his life could not be saved.

Film career

Geethanandan has acted in more than 30 films. He had played a major role in making Ottanthullal, a traditional art from, popular outside the State.

He is survived by his wife, Shobana, and children, Sanal Kumar and Sreelakshi, both thullal artistes.

Condoled

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Minister for Culture A.K. Balan and Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala have condoled the death.
