A delegation of Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church has called on the Nair Service Society (NSS) leadership on Sunday.

The four-member delegation led by Bishop Geevarghese Mar Julius, head of the Ahmedabad diocese, and three priests, met the NSS general secretary G Sukumaran Nair and explained their position in the vexed St Pauls’ and St Peter’s Church issue in which they are in direct conflict with the Jacobite Syrian Christian Church.

According to Mr Nair, the NSS considered the issue as an internal mater of the community and as such refrained from taking any side.

However, the issue is a matter of faith as also a matter of social concern. As such, like everyone else, the NSS is also keen to see an amicable settlement of the problem which would ensure the legitimate demands of both the sides.

Leaders of both the Churches and those who lead the State government should take the initiative in this endeavor, Mr Nair said. According to him, he had assured them that the view of the NSS on the issue would be conveyed to the Chief Minister.

The Orthodox delegation which arrived by 3:45 pm spent more than half an hour with the NSS leader.
