The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has blamed the State government for the tension at Sabarimala over the entry of women of all age groups to the Ayyappa temple.
“The Left Democratic Front (LDF) government, through its callous policies on Sabarimala, is paving the way for the Sangh Parivar to get a solid rooting in the State,” IUML general secretary P.K. Kunhalikutty, MP, said.
He said the government had failed to gauge the mind of the Hindu devotees and those believing in secular fabric of the country. Mr. Kunhalikutty accused the government of turning Sabarimala into a platform for hooliganism of the Sangh Parivar forces and some non-believing activists.
Instead of providing protection for devotees, the police had brought shame on themselves by giving protection to activists, he said. “The government cannot afford to turn a blind eye on the protests being raised by women and children,” he said.
The IUML said the government should have foreseen trouble in Sabarimala. “It should have had it before venturing out to implement the court verdict without bothering to hold discussions with Hindu organisations,” he said.
The IUML bewailed that the secular credentials the State used to uphold before the world were being tarnished. The Sabarimala violence was being discussed the world over, he said. “The government’s arrogance is solely responsible for this,” he said.
Mr. Kunhalikutty said the Sangh Parivar forces were trying to turn the State into a riotous land by fomenting trouble in the name of religion. “The government should not turn itself into a trump card for the Sangh,” he said.
Mr. Kunhalikutty condoled the death of party’s Manjeswaram MLA P.B. Abdul Razak. “His death is a big loss not only to the party and the UDF, but also to those who upheld secular values.”
