One held for Vijaya Bank heist

The police have arrested one person in connection with the robbery of 19.50 kg gold ornaments and nearly 3 lakh in cash from the Vijaya Bank branch at Cheruvathur.

The arrest of Sulaiman, who was taken into custody on Friday from Kodagu in Karnataka, was registered on Saturday following interrogation, K.E. Premachandran, Neeleswaram Circle Inspector, who is heading the probe, told The Hindu .

He refused to comment on the reports that the gold was recovered from an unused well at Cherkala, around 6 km from here.

He said Superintendent of Police A. Srinivas had convened a press conference at the office of the Kanhangad Dy.SP at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
