The Nair Service Society (NSS) has announced their policy for the Parliament elections.
On Thursday, NSS general secretary G. Sukumaran Nair made it clear that the organisation would keep equal distance from all political parties. Such a step in such an early stage in the run-up to the elections is considered unusual.
In a statement here, the NSS general secretary said that there were occasions when the NSS had deviated from its policy of equidistance. However, this time the organisation would maintain equal distance from all. The NSS would not have special preference on the issue of candidate selection and would not issue any directive on voting for any particular candidate or political party, he said. The NSS members belonged to political parties following various ideologies. However, they should not exploit their association with the NSS to advance their personal interests in their respective places, Mr. Nair said.
Later, Mr. Nair told The Hindu that such a stance would not deny the NSS an opportunity to comment on issues political or otherwise, which would concern the members of the community or society in general.
