A day after the police arrested the Sangh Parivar leaders K.P. Sasikala and K. Surendran from Sabarimala, the Nair Service Society (NSS) on Sunday came down heavily on the alleged arbitrary action of preventing devotees from reaching the Ayyappa temple and locking them up without valid reasons.
In an official statement issued here on Sunday, NSS general secretary G. Sukumaran Nair also flayed the State government’s move to take control of Sabarimala through a heavy police deployment.
“The gratuitous action of blocking devotees from ascending the holy hillock and putting them behind bars is not a solution but a reason to complicate the situation further,” he said.
Crisis
He further blamed the State government as well as the Travancore Devasom Board, which had consistently opposed the idea of filing a petition to either review or seeking more time to implement the Supreme Court order, responsible for the current crisis in Sabarimala.
“The area is witnessing regulations like never before in the name of security and the whole area is indeed being governed by the police. While devotees are denied the right to visit Pampa or Sannidhanam even during the day, they are also denied of basic amenities at these locations,” read the statement.
