: It is a novel initiative for students of the Pallikkunnu Government Higher Secondary School here to share their experiences of learning and explore answers to questions they encounter as part of their learning process.

The house of a school teacher near Kanathur Temple here and the house of a student at Padikkunudu will serve as the ‘study homes,’ meeting points for students in the neighbourhood to discuss study materials and find answers to study-related problems.

The ‘study homes’ are being arranged as part of the ‘Joy of Learning’ life and learning study tour of the students conducted under the aegis of the ‘Nanma Samskarika Sargavedi’ of the school.

According to the school authorities, in the coming days more study homes will be opened in areas having a certain number of students studying in the school. The students in a neighbourhood frequently gather at these study homes to evaluate their learning experiences, a press release here said.

The project also envisages circulation of books from the school library among mothers of the students in a neighbourhood.

The idea is that in a year’s time, the mothers will have read all the books being circulated.

This book circulation initiative to promote reading habit among the mothers is christened ‘Adukkalayil ninnu arangathekku,’ the title of the famous play authored by V.T. Bhattathirippad. Also envisaged is the promotion of vegetable cultivation in households and domestic hygiene. Vegetable seeds were distributed. The Study Homes project was inaugurated by Deputy Director of Education E. Vasanthan on June 27. School Headmaster K.V. Surendran presided.
