No need to appease NSS: Kodiyeri

Hitting out at the Nair Service Society (NSS), CPI(M) State secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said that there is no need for the party to appease the NSS.

Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, Mr. Balakrishnan said: ‘‘The NSS is acting like feudal lords. There is no need for the CPI(M) to go after and assuage the NSS. The NSS should keep their feudal character with itself,’’ Mr. Balakrishnan said.

He said the stance of the NSS would not affect the poll prospects of the Left Democratic Front (LDF). ‘‘The NSS has challenged us before. But we have overcome the challenges. We are not dependent on them. Their political stance is wrong,’’ Mr. Balakrishnan said.

He said that only a few religious and caste leaders were opposing the CPI(M) and the LDF. ‘‘Members of all caste organisations are with the LDF. They are the strength of the front,’’ he said.

Mr. Kodiyeri said that a section of the media was haunting the CPI(M) after the murder of two Youth Congress activists at Periye in Kasaragod. “The CPI(M) is against murder,” he said.
