The United Democratic Front (UDF) is not facing any dispute from within over who should head the ruling alliance in the 2016 Assembly poll and there is no need to rake up a controversy over the ‘non issue,’ Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leader and Industries Minister P.K. Kunhalikutty has said.
Being the single largest party in the front, the Congress usually decides on the leadership before sharing the view with other constituent parties of the front, Mr. Kunhalikkutty said at a meet-the-press programme here on Monday.
“A third front will not be a deciding factor in the State’s politics. I do not want to comment on the moves to forge an electoral tie-up between the SNDP and the BJP,” he said. He parried a question on his views on the moves by SNDP general secretary Vellappally Natesan to join hands with the BJP in the local body election saying “I too share your opinion.”
The IUML, which had proved its secular credentials, had remained vigilant to see that no communal and fundamental forces were allowed to flourish or hold sway among the minority communities. Even though the IUML had to face threat from rebels, the party is hopeful of registering a clear mandate in the poll.
