No central force for polls in Kasaragaod

: The district did not warrant deployment of central security forces even though there are 31 highly sensitive and 321 sensitive polling booths, district Collector P.S. Muhammed Sagir has said.

The administration has deployed 2,362 police personnel to man the 1,403 polling booths, while preliminary arrangements have been completed for the smooth conduct of the local body polls, he said.

There are 406 polling booths to facilitate voting in the linguistic minority areas where arrangements had been made to provide election details in Kannada.

As many as 1,978 candidates are in the fray for 38 grama panchayats, 354 in Kasaragod, Kanhangad and Neeleshwaram municipalities and 260 aspirants contesting for the six block panchayats and 59 nominees from 17 district panchayat divisions.

The district has 9,52,173 electorates, he said.
