After drawing flak for its poor performance in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) of the Ministry of Human Resource Development in the last three editions, the National Institute of Technology, Calicut, (NIT-C), has emerged as the top engineering college in Kerala.
It was in the second place behind Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Valiamala (Thiruvananthapuram) last year. Its ranking showed a big jump to the 28th position in the all-India level from the 50th last year. Besides, its Department of Architecture and Planning has been ranked third after IIT, Kharagpur, and IIT, Roorkee. The prestigious School of Planning and Architecture in New Delhi is placed fourth in this category.
The NIT-C, its Director Sivaji Chakravorti, said was one of the top five NITs in the country.
At the national level, it had secured an overall score of 52.69 in the engineering category. Its score for Teaching, Learning and Resources was 63.47; Research Productivity, Impact and Intellectual Property Right (28.22); Graduation Outcome (77.01) Outreach and Inclusivity (61.09) and Perception (36.71).
Dr. Chakravorti said the placement factor had also helped the NIT-C in its performance in the ranking.
