With an all-time best performance, the National Institute of Technology, Calicut, (NIT-C), has wrapped up its final placements for 2018-19. A record number of 609 students have received offers with an average salary of ₹10 lakh.
This year, possibly after making a quantum jump in the NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework) ranking to 28th position from 50th, the institute has secured six international offers.
‘‘The highest annual compensation was ₹50 lakh by Artifcat, which visited the campus for the first time,’’ S.M. Sameer, Professor and Head, Training and Placement Centre, told The Hindu on Thursday.
130 firms visit campus
More than 130 companies visited the campus and the overall placements in B.Tech. programmes were 87%, with an average salary of ₹10 lakh.
‘‘Computer Science and Engineering branch continued to be on top with 120 students getting hired with an average salary of ₹15 lakh. The average package was ₹12 lakh last year,’’ he said.
EC second favourite
Likewise, Electronics and Communication (EC) branch remained the second favourite choice of recruiters with 98 students getting offers with an average salary of ₹9.15 lakh, Dr. Sameer said.
The placement of core B.Tech. branches -- Electrical and Electronics, Mechanical and Civil -- were above 80% .
‘‘There were also takers for specialised branches, including Chemical Engineering (36 offers) and Biotechnology (8 offers),’’ Dr. Sameer said.
The highest offer for M.Tech. was ₹31.5 lakh per annum, offered to a computer science student by Goldman-Sachs.
MBA, MCA placements
Students of MBA (73 %) and MCA (70%) also received good placements.
Dr. Sameer said the current B.Tech. students (graduands of 2020) had also received internship offers from 110 companies in the range of ₹15,000 to one lakh per month.
‘‘About 50 M.Tech. students secured attractive stipend for their final thesis work. Most of these internships are expected to be converted to full-time offers with better salary packages,’’ he said.
In addition to conventional sectors such as construction, manufacturing, automobile, software and services, he said industrial verticals such as banking and finance, oil and gas and even online tutoring visited the campus this year.
Some of the recruiters include L&T (46), Oracle (26), Target (21), Amdocs (20) and MRF (19). The other recruiters were Amazon, Microsoft, Multiplex, Cisco, General Electric, Intel, Adobe, Morgan Stanley, Maruti Suzuki, Goldman Sachs, J P Morgan, Nutanix, AppDynamics, Sobha developers and SAP, he said.
