Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Rahul Gandhi, MP, along with an all-party delegation from Wayanad district will meet Union Ministers on Tuesday.
They would hold a discussion with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and Union Minister for Environment, Forest And Climate Change Prakash Javadekar on significance of lifting the night traffic ban on the Kozhikode-Kollegal NH 766.
“We expect that the Central government would adopt a favourable decision in this regard,” Suresh Thaloor, general convener, National Highway 766 Transport Protection Action Committee, said.
A group of youths had launched an indefinite hunger strike under the aegis of the organisation since September 25 raising a slew of demands including maintenance of the status quo ante of the highway.
UDF discussion
Mr. Rahul Gandhi held a discussion with a group of UDF leaders in New Delhi on Monday regarding the issue.
Mr. Gandhi would hold a discussion with Mr. Pinarayi Vijayan at Kerala House in New Delhi on Tuesday on the issue, District Congress president I.C. Balakrishnan, MLA, said.
Mr. Gandhi would also visit the youths on Thursday to express his solidarity with the agitation, Mr. Balakrishnan said.
Mr. Gandhi tweeted on Sunday that he stood in solidarity with the youths on an indefinite hunger strike since September 25 protesting against the daily nine-hour traffic ban on NH 766.
Meanwhile, a group of farmers under the aegis of the Kerala Karshaka Munnani took out a march to the Kerala-Karnataka border on Monday demanding freedom of travel through the Kozhikode-Kollegal NH 766.
Various organisations took out march in Sulthan Bathery expressing solidarity with the stir.
