New newspaper from August

CPI(M) launching Kannada daily

June 11, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - KASARAGOD:

In an apparent bid to influence the sizeable Kannada-speaking families in the border areas of the district, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) is launching an evening newspaper from August.

“To be named Tulunad Times, the daily is expected to spread the Leftist and progressive ideals. It will be able to highlight the issues faced by the linguistic minorities,” CPI(M) district secretariat member P. Raghavan said at a press conference here on Wednesday.

He said an office of the paper would be opened at Vidyanagar on Thursday. Kannada litterateur and social activist Sidhalingayya would inaugurate the office at a function to be presided over by artist P.S Puninchitaya.

P Karunakaran, MP; N.A. Nellikkunnu, MLA; and Kerala Kannada Sahitya Sangam president S.V. Bhat would attend the programme. — Staff Reporter
